2005 AI programme update
Terrick sire ranks 19th in the central test
2005 AI programme
update
15 June 2006
In December last year, Terrick Merinos carried out
another comprehensive AI program involving 350 special stud ewes
and four separate sires.
After the success of the Charinga genetics from
the 2005 lambing, the stud decided to use Junior 12 again
and 040119, one of his sons. Both rams offer excellent
traits in conformation and wool quality and are generally uncomplicated
animals.
Nerstane 99-0043 was also used extensively
this year. This sire has impeccable credentials having been ranked
in the top four on all central test indexes. With breeding qualities
across all profit drivers and an exceptional tops to culls ratio,
this sire stands apart.
Terrick 04-0580 was used as a benchmark
for the introduced genetics. This ram is one of the first Nerstane-Banavie
cross sheep bred on property; his mother is a second generation
Banavie and his sire is a second generation Nerstane. He displays
both outstanding structural correctness and exceptional wool quality,
and returned positive figures across all traits.
Terrick sire ranks
19th in the central test
11 March 2006
Terrick sire 97-0123 has ranked 19th in the top
25 rams benchmarked in the central test on a dual purpose 3% index.
Here’s how this sire’s progeny tested in comparison
to all other rams benchmarked in the central test:
+1.6% GFW
-0.3um FD
+7.9% BW
He also has a positive tops to culls ratio on visual
assessment.
This result is particularly pleasing because while
97-0123 is a high performer in the stud, there are several other
sires that are performing better.
Comparisons like the central test are very important
because they lift the skill levels in measuring genetic gain.
The stud will continue to benchmark its genetics in the central
test and source high performing genetics from other studs.
