Terrick Merinos 2022 Ram Auction

Terrick Merinos Auction - Date set for 5 September Auction at Blackall at 12.00pm.

Terrick Merinos 2021 Ram Auction

The Terrick Merinos annual sale and ram auction was held on 31 August 2021.

A full clearance was achieved. The 2022 auction will be held at the Blackall Showgrounds in September.

Selection System

Clients can use comprehensive figures on each animal to customise ram selection to target their own production objectives.

Since 2001, the selection system for Terrick bred rams has entailed indexing on micron, fleece weight and body weight, as well as a stringent subjective assessment based around the physical attributes of the wool and the animal.
Once the animals have been indexed and ranked they then have to pass a visual classing for conformation, type and wool quality. We believe it is important to keep a healthy balance between wool quality and growth, fertility, frame and structure. This is achieved by using a 6% Merino Production + Body weight Index.

Breeding a balanced animal across all production criteria means selection is evenly weighted across all traits and not singly focused.

Genetics

Clients reap benefit within their own flocks, through their ram purchases, as the stud continues to genetically improve.

Terrick Merinos benchmarks rams against the Central Test Sire Evaluation (CTSE), so that genetic gain can be properly measured and monitored.
Through the CTSE and other sources, outside genetics are continually scrutinised with a view to purchase for use in future Artificial insemination (AI) programs. At the same time, selected sires from Terrick continue to be benchmarked against the introduced genetics.

Since 2001 the Stud has carried out numerous AI Programs and introduced selected genetics from; Nerstane, Charinga, Banavie, Pooginook, Billandri, Well Gully, Boonoke and Toland.
